The Kerala High Court has reinstated the interim police protection for Monalisa Bhosle, renowned from the Kumbh Mela, following her compliance with previous court directives. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas issued the order after Monalisa provided evidence that she had formally requested protection from the police, as previously instructed by the court.
Justice Thomas emphasized, “Since the petitioner has now approached the police, the interim order directing grant of police protection shall continue.” The court also included the Station House Officer (SHO) of Palarivattom Police Station as a party to the case, ensuring that authorities continue to provide Monalisa with necessary security.
Monalisa, who gained national recognition after her videos went viral at the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela, sought the High Court’s intervention due to threats following her marriage to actor Mohammed Farman Khan. She reported facing an online hate campaign, intimidation, and death threats, largely stemming from their interfaith marriage. The couple’s situation was further exacerbated by social media posts containing abusive content, public protests involving the burning of their photographs, and direct threats, including being labeled a “Pakistani.”
Initially, on June 20, the High Court had granted Monalisa interim police protection, acknowledging her entitlement to life protection. However, this protection was temporarily removed on July 10 when the state informed the court of the police’s inability to locate Monalisa, thus hindering their ability to provide security.
The court had previously clarified that should Monalisa seek protection in writing at the appropriate police station, adequate protection should be reinstated. Upon resumption of the case on Tuesday, Monalisa’s legal counsel confirmed her compliance with this directive, prompting the government’s representative to inform the court that her residence had been identified, and contact details of a woman Assistant Sub-Inspector were provided for immediate assistance.

Following these developments, the court ordered the continuation of the interim protection. Monalisa’s legal team includes advocates PS Anishad, Limna Bhaskaran, Sreeparvathi GV, Samuel Sabu, KK Preetha, and Siyad Ummer.
