The Madhya Pradesh High Court has instructed that a second post-mortem be conducted on Twisha Sharma, who passed away under suspicious circumstances at her marital home in Bhopal. This examination is to be carried out by a medical team from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, although the procedure will take place in Bhopal. To facilitate this, a special flight will transport the doctors to the location, with the court emphasizing the urgency of the matter.
This directive was issued by Justice Avanindra Kumar Singh following a petition filed by Navnidhi Sharma, Twisha’s father. Twisha Sharma, originally from Noida, had entered into matrimony with Bhopal-based lawyer Samarth Singh just five months prior, after the couple met via a dating application. Her untimely death has raised concerns from her family, who allege that her in-laws subjected her to continuous domestic abuse and harassment.
In response to these allegations, the family has requested a second post-mortem to determine the true cause of her demise. The Katara Hills police station has registered a First Information Report (FIR) to investigate the circumstances surrounding Sharma’s death. Consequently, her husband, Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, Giribal Singh, who is a retired judge, have been charged with dowry harassment.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing on behalf of the State, supported the petition for a second post-mortem. However, he made it clear that this should not be interpreted as questioning the competency of the doctors who performed the initial examination.
