Pallavi Gopinath Aney Joins Global Board of A&O Shearman

Pallavi Gopinath Aney, a distinguished capital markets partner at A&O Shearman, has been appointed to the global board of this leading international law firm. Based in Singapore, Aney is a prominent figure, serving as the co-head of the firm’s India Group, and is now one of the 11 members of the global board.

This appointment follows the recent board reshuffle at A&O Shearman, with Aney and Emily Westridge Black, the managing partner of the Austin office, filling the final positions. Aney’s expertise lies in debt and equity capital markets transactions, particularly within India and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

She brings over 22 years of invaluable experience, advising a diverse range of clients including issuers, underwriters, and sponsors. Her proficiency extends to Rule 144A and Regulation S international debt offerings, initial public offerings, private placements, and equity-linked securities such as exchangeable and convertible bonds. Additionally, Aney is adept at handling bond restructurings, consent solicitations, exchange offers, induced conversions, and tender offers.

Aney’s legal qualifications are extensive, holding solicitor credentials in India, England and Wales, and Singapore. She joined Allen & Overy in Singapore in 2019 from Baker McKenzie, bringing with her a wealth of experience from her tenure at Linklaters. Her earlier career also includes significant roles at Pathak and Associates, and S&R Associates in India.

In 2021, Allen & Overy recognized Aney’s leadership potential by appointing her and Sheila Ahuja as joint chairs of its India Group. The formation of A&O Shearman, through the strategic merger of Allen & Overy and Shearman & Sterling, was overwhelmingly supported by both firms’ partnerships in 2023, with approval ratings exceeding 99 percent.
