Supreme Court Collegium Proposes Six Lawyers for Karnataka High Court Judgeship

The Supreme Court Collegium has put forward a significant recommendation in the judicial appointments for the Karnataka High Court, suggesting the elevation of six distinguished advocates to the bench. This decision emerged from the Collegium’s deliberations on Tuesday, June 2.

Advocates Nominated for Judicial Roles

The individuals nominated for judgeship include:

  • Raghavendra Seetharam Srivatsa
  • Hema Kulkarni
  • Subramanya Rangarao
  • Thadagavadi Prakash Vivekananda
  • Bakkeswara Pramod
  • Hombe Gowda Shanthi Bhushan

This proposal highlights the Collegium’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the judiciary with qualified and experienced legal professionals, ensuring the judiciary is equipped to handle its caseload efficiently.

Current and Projected Judicial Strength

In a recent move, the Central government sanctioned the appointment of three judicial officers as additional judges of the Karnataka High Court. As a result, the court’s current operational strength increased to 48 judges out of a total sanctioned strength of 62.

Should the latest recommendations receive approval, the Karnataka High Court’s working capacity will expand to 54 judges, narrowing the gap towards the sanctioned numbers and potentially enhancing the court’s ability to manage its docket more effectively.

The Collegium’s recommendations are crucial to maintaining the balance and efficiency of the judiciary, as they address both current demands and future challenges.
