Navnidhi Sharma, father of the late Twisha Sharma, has approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court in a bid to revoke the anticipatory bail granted to Twisha’s mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, a former district judge. The sessions court had recently granted this bail, citing Singh’s age and her previous judicial position as factors in its decision.
The petition challenges the order issued by a Bhopal court on May 15, which provided protection from arrest to Singh. This decision also noted that the primary allegations were directed towards Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh. Currently, Navnidhi Sharma’s plea awaits a hearing, with expectations that it will be addressed by a vacation bench shortly.
Giribala Singh has faced criticism for her public remarks against Twisha following the grant of her anticipatory bail. The controversy arises amidst claims from Twisha’s family, who allege that her in-laws subjected her to domestic violence and harassment, leading to her untimely death.
Twisha Sharma, originally from Noida, had married Samarth Singh, a lawyer based in Bhopal, just five months prior to her death. The couple met through a dating app. After her passing, an FIR was registered by the Katara Hills police station to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death. Both Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh have been implicated in a dowry harassment case.
Recently, Additional District Sessions Judge Pallavi Dwivedi denied anticipatory bail to Samarth Singh, who remains elusive according to police. In response, Samarth has also approached the High Court seeking protection from arrest.
The case has drawn significant public attention due to the high-profile nature of those involved. Twisha Sharma, a former Miss Pune, was connected to a family with strong judicial ties. Samarth Singh’s legal career and Giribala Singh’s role as the President of the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission add layers of complexity to the unfolding legal battle.
