The Karnataka High Court has dismissed the First Information Report (FIR) against actor Siddhanth Kapoor and two others related to the 2022 Bengaluru drug case. This decision, stemming from the case Siddhanth Kapoor v State of Karnataka, comes after allegations that Kapoor consumed illegal substances at a party in 2022, which he has consistently denied. In response to these allegations, Kapoor filed a plea to have the FIR quashed.
In a ruling dated July 9, Justice M Nagaprasanna determined that the case rested solely on the results of a urine test conducted by a private laboratory, which lacked necessary confirmatory tests. The court identified procedural flaws in the handling of blood and urine samples, which were not processed through the designated Central Government regional forensic laboratory as required.
Justice Nagaprasanna, upon reviewing the circumstances, granted Kapoor’s petition to annul both the FIR and subsequent legal proceedings initiated in 2022. It is noteworthy that Kapoor, son of renowned Bollywood actor Shakthi Kapoor and sibling to actress Shraddha Kapoor, was initially detained in June 2022 following a police raid on a Bengaluru hotel. He was released on bail shortly thereafter, as no illegal substances were discovered in his possession.
The police operation targeted individuals suspected of consuming narcotics at the event. Despite police claims that Kapoor’s urine tested positive for cocaine and cannabis, Kapoor firmly denied knowingly using any drugs. The court’s recent decision came after establishing that the case was unsupported by reliable evidence, specifically pointing to the unconfirmed urine test results provided by the private lab.
Representing Siddhanth Kapoor in court was Advocate H Malatesh, while Advocates Suraj Sampath represented the other petitioners. The State’s interests were defended by Special Public Prosecutor BN Jagadeesha and High Court Government Pleader Deepthi Alva.
