The Central Government has officially approved the appointment of three judicial officers as additional judges in the Andhra Pradesh High Court. This decision was announced on Friday and marks a significant step in addressing the current judicial vacancies in the state.
The appointed judicial officers are Sunitha Gandham, Alapati Giridhar, and Purushottam Kumar Chintelapudi. The announcement was made by the Minister of Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, who holds the position of Independent Charge. Meghwal shared the news via his social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening the judicial system.
Official Announcement by the Law Ministry
In accordance with the powers vested by the Constitution of India and following consultations with the Chief Justice of India, the President has officially appointed these judicial officers as additional judges. The announcement was accompanied by a tweet from Arjun Ram Meghwal, which read: “In exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India, in consultation with Chief Justice of India, the President is pleased to appoint the following Judicial Officers as Additional Judges of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.” The tweet included an image outlining the appointments.
Recommendations by the Supreme Court Collegium
The Supreme Court Collegium had previously recommended these appointments during a meeting held on May 4. This recommendation was part of the collegium’s ongoing efforts to fill judicial vacancies and maintain the judicial efficiency of the high courts across the country.
As of July 1, the Andhra Pradesh High Court, which has an authorized judge strength of 37, was operating with only 29 judges, leaving eight positions vacant. The recent appointments aim to fill these vacancies and enhance the court’s capacity to manage its caseload more effectively.
