Anjana Om Kashyap Pursues ₹2 Crore Defamation Case in Delhi High Court Against Khan Sir and 4PM News

Anjana Om Kashyap and TV Today Network Initiate Defamation Proceedings

Prominent journalist Anjana Om Kashyap, along with TV Today Network, has lodged a defamation lawsuit in the Delhi High Court targeting renowned educator Faisal Khan, known as Khan Sir, among others. This legal action arises from allegedly defamatory remarks made in the wake of Kashyap’s critique of the rising phenomenon of ‘star teachers’.

The case, which demands compensation amounting to ₹2 crores, is scheduled for a hearing on June 8 before the vacation bench overseen by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna. The plaintiffs are seeking the removal of defamatory content directed at Kashyap and India Today and are requesting a restraining order to prevent further defamatory publications by the defendants.

Additional Defendants and Allegations

Besides Khan Sir, the lawsuit names other educators such as Abhinay Sharma, Babita Tyagi, and Arvind Bhadauriya as defendants. The suit also involves several accounts on the social media platform X, as well as the 4PM News Network.

The controversy was ignited following a debate hosted by Kashyap on May 29, 2026, on Aaj Tak, where she addressed the burgeoning influence of online ‘star teachers’ and the commercialization of education. Kashyap maintains that her comments were part of a legitimate journalistic discourse on a topic of national importance.

In response, the defendants allegedly launched a social media campaign from May 30 to June 4, disseminating videos and posts that depicted Kashyap and Aaj Tak in derogatory terms, accusing them of being “bikau patrakar,” “chatukar,” and running a “fake news ki dukaan.”

The plaintiffs assert that the campaign subjected them to contempt, ridicule, and public hostility through language that was abusive and scandalous, unrelated to any valid public discourse. Furthermore, it is alleged that Khan Sir disclosed sensitive information about the school attended by Kashyap’s child, which the plaintiffs argue was irrelevant to the public debate and posed security risks for their family.

“The Defendants’ reckless conduct has exposed the Plaintiff’s child to unwanted attention and security threats,” the suit claims, emphasizing the serious harm inflicted on the plaintiffs’ reputation, dignity, privacy, and safety.

The legal action is being pursued with the assistance of advocates Hrishikesh Baruah, Utkarsh Dwivedi, and Pragya Agarwal.
