The Delhi High Court, on Thursday, delivered a significant ruling by granting bail to Salim Malik, an accused in the Delhi riots conspiracy case. This crucial decision was made by a Division Bench comprising Justices Prathiba M Singh and Madhu Jain, who provided regular bail to Malik. The charges against Malik, brought by the Delhi Police, include allegations under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
Salim Malik’s previous attempts at securing bail had been unsuccessful, as he was denied bail on January 29, 2026. On that same day, the court also rejected bail applications from Tahir Hussain and Athar Khan. Notably, the bail plea of Athar Khan is scheduled for further consideration by Justices Prathiba M Singh and Madhu Jain on May 25.
The trial court had earlier observed that, although the Supreme Court on January 5 had granted bail to five individuals including Shifa-ur-Rehman, Gulfisha Fatima, Salim Khan, Meeran Haider, and Shadab Ahmed, the decisions concerning Malik, Hussain, and Khan were based on the merits of their respective cases, leading to their bail denial.
The accusations against Malik and other defendants involve their alleged involvement in terror activities and a conspiracy to incite violence during the 2020 Delhi riots. The Delhi Police has invoked UAPA provisions, which are stringent anti-terrorism laws, to bolster their case against Malik and others.
The decision of the Delhi High Court to grant bail to Malik marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing legal proceedings related to the riots, underscoring the complexities and the high-profile nature of the case.
