Join iProbono India as a Program Officer in Delhi
iProbono India is actively recruiting a Program Officer specializing in Child Protection to join their team in New Delhi. This full-time position seeks a mid-career legal professional with significant expertise and litigation experience in child protection laws, focusing on the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Qualifications and Skills
The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree in law and have at least three years of litigation experience in child rights and POCSO-related matters, preferably within an NGO or legal chamber. A sound understanding of the Indian legal system, especially laws concerning child rights, is crucial. Proficiency in English and Hindi, along with excellent communication and organizational skills, is essential.
Key Responsibilities
The role involves assisting in trial and appellate court casework in Delhi on behalf of child survivors of sexual abuse, bonded labor, and trafficking. Responsibilities include coordinating with panel advocates and social workers, ensuring effective court representation, attending court hearings, drafting pleadings, and liaising with police, Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), and government authorities.
Further duties include conducting legal research, handling team responsibilities, identifying legal intervention areas, and leading advocacy and fact-finding initiatives. The Program Officer will also engage with government stakeholders and non-profit organizations to expand the network and facilitate social impact litigation.
Additional Responsibilities
Internal documentation tasks include updating the iProbono in-house database and litigation management notes. The role also requires collecting and analyzing data to identify trends and gaps in iProbono’s work areas, assessing relevant legislation and policy papers, and their impact on advocacy efforts.
Other responsibilities involve developing training and legal resources on child rights laws for partner organizations, their beneficiaries, and the legal community. The Program Officer will collaborate with the communications team to develop advocacy materials and storytelling campaigns.
