The Karnataka government has initiated a significant reshuffle in its legal representation, appointing a fresh team of law officers to advocate for the State in judicial proceedings. This decision comes in the wake of a recent administrative transition within the state’s political landscape.
Advocate B.N. Jagadeesh has been elevated to the position of State Public Prosecutor-I, succeeding B.A. Belliyappa. His term as the lead prosecutor is set for one year or until any further directives are issued, whichever precedes. Alongside this key appointment, Vijayakumar Majage has been appointed as State Public Prosecutor-II, and Mohammed Ayub Ali Khan has been named an Additional State Public Prosecutor.
These appointments are executed in accordance with Rule 23 of the Karnataka Law Officers (Appointments and Conditions of Service) Rules, 1977, ensuring that the process adheres to established legal frameworks. This reshuffling of legal officers aligns with the recent change in leadership, marked by D.K. Shivakumar assuming office as the Chief Minister of Karnataka. His appointment is part of a strategic power-sharing arrangement, following the resignation of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on May 28.
Such changes are pivotal as the newly appointed law officers are expected to bring their expertise to the fore, representing the state in various legal matters and contributing to the effective functioning of Karnataka’s judicial processes. These strategic appointments underscore the evolving political and administrative priorities within Karnataka, signaling a fresh approach to governance under the current Congress-led administration.
