The Indian Litigation Fellowship for the 2026-2027 term has selected nine women lawyers, marking a significant step forward in supporting first-generation female litigators. This initiative is designed to provide both financial aid and mentorship, empowering young women at the onset of their legal careers. This year, the fellowship received an overwhelming number of applications, with nearly 900 individuals vying for just 10 coveted spots. The jury noted that many applicants face substantial structural and socio-economic challenges in pursuing and maintaining a career in litigation.
Fellowship Selections
For this fellowship cycle, eight lawyers have been selected as Open Litigation Fellows, while one has been awarded the prestigious Lawyer-in-Residence Fellowship. Unfortunately, no candidate was chosen for the Lawyer-in-Residence position at E-23 Chambers in New Delhi this year.
The eight women selected as Open Litigation Fellows are:
- Yumnam Binita Singha from Assam
- Kiran Yadav from Delhi
- Ananya Madhusudhanan from Kerala
- Shruti Ganesh Kolaki from Karnataka
- Tsering Angmo from Ladakh
- Vaishnavi from Haryana
- Ayesha Shahid from Delhi
- Thanishka from Tamil Nadu
Lawyer-in-Residence Fellowship
The Lawyer-in-Residence Fellowship has been awarded to Aanchal Saini from Delhi. Her placement will be with Pravah Law, under the mentorship of Shrutanjaya Bhardwaj, in New Delhi for a period of one year. This opportunity will provide her with invaluable experience and exposure.
The Open Litigation Fellows will have the autonomy to choose litigation chambers where they wish to gain their experience, allowing them to tailor their fellowship to their specific career goals and interests.
Overall, the selection of these nine women underscores the importance of fostering diversity and removing barriers in the legal profession, ensuring that talented individuals can thrive regardless of their background.
