The field of arbitration in India is witnessing significant growth, with an increase in institutional caseloads and the routine enforcement of cross-border decisions. As the legal landscape evolves, there is an increasing expectation for legal professionals to independently handle all aspects of arbitration, from crafting arbitration clauses and framing pleadings to examining witnesses and enforcing awards in multiple jurisdictions. The demand for immediate proficiency in arbitration practice has become a standard requirement.
To meet this growing need, National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi), in collaboration with Mentblue, has launched a Certificate Course on Arbitration Law & Practice: Proceedings, Procedure, and Related Litigation. This initiative, part of ‘The Practice Series’, is designed to guide participants through real-world arbitration practices employed by top-tier dispute resolution teams.
Course Highlights
The course is led by seasoned practitioners from esteemed law firms such as Trilegal, CMS IndusLaw, Saraf & Partners, S&R Associates, and Luthra & Luthra Law Offices. These experts bring their extensive experience in drafting arbitration agreements, handling interim applications, examining witnesses, and enforcing arbitration awards.
Participants will gain insights into the arbitration lifecycle, from the initial agreement to the enforcement of awards, taught in a sequence that mirrors the real-world unfolding of disputes. The course includes two comprehensive assignments based on actual Indian arbitration cases, allowing for hands-on learning rather than theoretical exercises.
A curated document library is available, providing precedents, arbitration notices, pleadings, interim applications, and award drafts. The course culminates in a certification from NLU Delhi, supervised by its Centre for Regulatory Studies, adding significant value to professional credentials.
Course Structure
The course comprises four modules, each focusing on different aspects of arbitration:
- Module 1: Foundations of arbitration, the Indian legal framework, and arbitration agreements, with a focus on drafting and legal complexities.
- Module 2: Delve into jurisdiction, arbitrability, and interim measures, including emergency arbitration and international practices.
