Madhu Damodaran Joins Singhania & Partners as Partner in Employment and Labour Practice

Madhu Damodaran has taken on a new role at Singhania & Partners LLP as a Partner specializing in Employment and Labour law, based in the firm’s Bengaluru office. A 1990 alumnus of Bharathiar University and a member of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, Damodaran brings over 25 years of rich experience in employment law, industrial relations, and labour compliance. His expertise combines legal acumen with extensive operational leadership in compliance functions.

In addition to his legal practice, Damodaran holds several prestigious positions. He serves as a Member of the Central Board of Trustees of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), nominated by the Employers’ Federation of India. He is also actively involved with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), contributing as a Member of the National Industrial Relations Committee, the CII Karnataka State Council, and as Co-Convener of the CII Karnataka State IR Panel. Furthermore, he is part of the Executive Committee of the Employers’ Federation of India and the National Regulatory Affairs Committee of the India Staffing Federation.

Prior to this appointment, Damodaran was the Regional Managing Partner at AMLEGALS. His arrival at Singhania & Partners is timely, coinciding with the enforcement of India’s consolidated Labour Codes since November 2025, alongside the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 and the DPDP Rules 2025.

Commenting on this strategic move, Ravi Singhania, the Managing Partner of Singhania & Partners, stated, “Madhu’s arrival is pivotal for employers in India. With the Labour Codes now operational and continued notifications of subordinate rules, the compliance landscape under EPFO and the social security framework is undergoing recalibration. The DPDP regime now places employee data protection at the forefront, posing dual regulatory challenges for employers with large Indian workforces. Few practitioners match Madhu’s extensive compliance experience and entrepreneurial insight, which he demonstrated at Quess Corp and Simpliance. His presence significantly augments our capability to serve multinational employers in India, and we are thrilled to have him on board.”

Reflecting on his new role, Damodaran remarked, “Singhania & Partners has cultivated an employment practice that perfectly aligns with my professional aspirations—offering rigorous legal counsel coupled with a profound understanding of large, complex organizational dynamics. The firm’s multinational client base and its strong ties with global groups managing large Indian workforces resonate with my background. I aim to bridge the regulatory intent with operational reality, where employers often face the most significant hurdles. At this critical juncture, with the Labour Codes in effect and the DPDP regime introducing new employee data obligations, I look forward to advising clients from Bengaluru, a growing hub for Technology Services Business, leveraging my experience at the nexus of law, policy, and operations.”
