Office of Advocate General, Karnataka Seeks Law Clerk-cum-Research Assistants

The Office of the Advocate General for Karnataka has announced an invitation for applications for the role of Law Clerk-cum-Research Assistant, available for the 2026-27 term. Successful candidates will be engaged on a contractual basis for one year, beginning from their appointment date, at the Office of the Advocate General in Bengaluru.

Vacancy Details and Joining Date

The office is offering 20 positions for this role, with an expected joining date of August 17, 2026.

Role and Responsibilities

The position provides a unique opportunity for individuals to gain experience by working on a variety of legal cases, especially those influencing public policy. Law Clerks-cum-Research Assistants will be mentored by senior legal professionals and will assist the Advocate General, Additional Advocates General, State Public Prosecutors, Government Advocates, High Court Government Pleaders, or Public Prosecutors, as needed. The role involves regular interaction with government officials and participation in legal proceedings that may involve entities with interests opposed to those of the Government of Karnataka or India.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be recent law graduates from 2025 or those expecting to graduate in 2026, having passed their final LLB Examination from a Bar Council of India-recognized university or college with at least 55% marks or a minimum CGPA of 5.5. Candidates should also be proficient with computers and case law software, be between 21 and 30 years of age, and demonstrate a keen interest in litigation and public policy. Preference may be given to candidates fluent in Kannada, and those educated in Kannada medium up to SSLC are encouraged to apply.

Assigned Tasks

Law Clerks will be tasked with assisting their assigned Law Officer in legal research, attending court sessions, taking notes, and drafting memoranda as required by the Advocate General or Additional Advocates General.

Interview and Application Process

The date for personal interviews will be announced on the Office of the Advocate General’s website and notice board, as well as via email to eligible candidates. Applications are to be submitted through an online Google form, and only one application per candidate is permitted. Required documents include a resume, a recent academic writing sample (optional), a matriculation certificate, consolidated or transcript mark sheets, a provisional or final degree certificate, and a recommendation letter from the Principal of their law college or the President of the Bar Association where they practice.

The deadline for application submission is June 30, 2026, at 11:59 PM IST. Applications received after this date will not be considered.
