About the Centre for Child Rights
Established as the premier research center at NLUO, the Centre for Child Rights was inaugurated on April 12, 2015, by Justice Dipak Misra, former Chief Justice of India. The center’s mission is to foster a culture of rights awareness, focusing on children’s rights, enhancing legal access, and promoting child well-being. It actively engages in research, policy advocacy, and community action to address children’s issues, aiming to provide comprehensive support to institutional governance layers concerned with child protection.
Under the leadership of former Vice Chancellor Prof. Ved Kumari, NLUO established its inaugural Chair Professorship on Child Rights, supported by a five-member team, sanctioned by the Chief Minister of Odisha in 2023. This initiative, led by Prof. Biraj Swain, represents the only operational professorship on child rights across all Indian universities.
